Cherry Blossoms

Bob’s Spring Cleaning HVAC Maintenance Checklist

The cherry blossoms are blooming and the birds are chirping. This can only mean one thing; the first day of spring is here! Some argue it is the perfect season to turn over a new leaf. We, however, believe it is the most opportune time to tackle Bob’s spring cleaning HVAC maintenance checklist! To ensure your home is ready for the heat ahead, read on to discover what you need to do to prepare your home for spring!

1. REPLACE FURNACE & AIR CONDITIONING FILTERS

Filters are something that should be changed every 90 days. However, there are exceptions. If someone has been ill in the household, it may be a good idea to change it early. Filters are also important for allergy season. Changing filters is another way to make sure you are prepped and on your way to keeping your family happy and healthy all season long. Better yet, check this spring cleaning HVAC maintenance tip off of your list every year and join our Annual Filter Replacement Program!

2. CLEAN BATHROOM EXHAUST FANS

Bathroom exhaust fans are often used, but undoubtedly neglected when it comes to keeping them clean. When properly cleaned, they remove unpleasant odors and prevent mold and mildew. Do you know how to properly clean an exhaust fan? Follow along with this detailed step-by-step guide to learn how to properly clean a bathroom fan.

3. REPLACE BATTERIES IN SMOKE & CARBON-MONOXIDE DETECTORS

While cleaning is the name of the game, so is safety. Ensure the safety of everyone inside your home by replacing batteries (if necessary) in all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. This simple spring cleaning checklist item will allow you to sleep with ease in case an emergency arises.

4. CLEAN AIR VENTS & FLOOR REGISTERS

Similarly to bathroom exhaust fans, air vents need to be cleaned too. What better time than springtime to get this taken care of? Most of the cleaning can be done by vacuuming, but some hard to reach areas may require the rag over a butter knife method. For floor registers, remove the vent by unscrewing it. Then, place the vent in soapy water and use a brush or sponge to clean off dirt or rust. Once the vent has dried, it can be reinstalled.

5. SCHEDULE A SPRING CLEANING HVAC TUNE-UP

Spring is the perfect time of year to schedule an HVAC maintenance appointment. Over the winter, dirt, debris, and dust have most likely accumulated in your home’s HVAC system. Dirty HVAC systems can hamper performance and lower efficiency, diminishing the quality of your home’s indoor air. It can even go as far as blowing dirt back into living areas.
