LintAlert Dryer Vent Safety Alarm
Other than when it gets caught in your belly button you probably don’t think about lint. But lint build–up in your clothes dryer exhaust pipe can cause fires in your house. In fact, the Boy Scout manual recommends taking dryer lint on camping trips because it is a very good material for starting camp fires. Clothes dryers were involved in an unbelievable 15,600 structure fires, 15 deaths and almost $100 million in direct property damage between 2002 and 2004 (full report from U.S. Department of Fire). The primary cause of these fires is lint build–up in the duct run getting blown back into the dryer’s heating element. LintAlert is a monitoring device that alerts you when your dryer’s exhaust system becomes clogged.

How the Lint Alert System Works
Your dryer’s lint filter is there to catch as much lint as possible, but an amount still gets past and begins to build up in the moisture and tight spaces of the duct system. Eventually, this can be the cause of a fire. LintAlert works by monitoring the air pressure in your dryer’s transition hose (the flexible metal hose that connects your dryer to the duct system). LintAlert uses a digital air pressure sensor to monitor small amounts of air flowing through the transition hose. A self–tapping fitting is placed in the transition hose and connects back to the sensor by a 1/8″ tube. As lint slowly clogs the dryer system, the air pressure inside the transition hose increases. When it reaches a dangerous level, LintAlert uses an audio alert to let you know that it’s time to have your dryer duct system inspected and serviced.
Boost Efficiency in Your Home With a Lint Alert System
In addition to safety, the LintAlert can also save you money. When your dryer’s exhaust system gets clogged, your dryer has to work harder to push air through it. This can lead to an increase in utility bills, longer dry time, more frequent repairs and a less efficient dryer. With the LintAlert, you know exactly when your dryer’s exhaust conduit needs to be cleaned so that it can run at peak efficiency.
