Duct Sealing
Are your heating and cooling ducts leaking? Studies have shown that the duct systems in most homes are not airtight. As much as 20% or more of the air that moves through the duct system in your home may be lost due to leaks, holes, and poorly connected ducts. These leaks can add up to as much air loss as having an open window! The result is higher
utility bills and difficulty keeping the house comfortable,
no matter how the thermostat is set.
Some signs that your home may have leaky, poorly insulated, or inefficient ducts:
- » High summer and winter utility bills
- » Rooms that are difficult to heat and cool
- » Stuffy rooms that never seem to feel comfortable
- » Ducts are located in an attic, unfinished basement, crawlspace or garage
- » Tangled or kinked flexible ducts in your system
With leaky ducts, you're losing air to the outside that you've already paid to heat or cool. The more these ducts leak, the longer a furnace or air conditioner has to run to maintain comfort. This means higher utility bills—year in and year out.
A duct system that is properly sealed and insulated can make your home more comfortable, energy efficient, and safer. Making improvements to your duct system can:
- » Improve Comfort
- » Enhance Indoor Air Quality
- » Promote Safety
- » Save Money
- » Protect the Environment
